This condition is common in the very young patients or the elderly. It can occur in normal individuals. Common causes include brain tumors, drugs, Brain injuries, low blood Glucose, strokes or Alzheimer's disease. It is quite variable and has multiple manifestations from alteration in normal state to generalized convulsions. The patient who is experiencing seizures usually does not know if this has happened. Complications of epilepsy include direct injury from falls, motor vehicle accidents, drownings and sudden death. In New York State, if one has a seizure, then you  are not allowed to drive for one year. This condition is easily treated with medications, so one can continue leading a normal life as possible. There are complications associated with use of any anticonvulsants in pregnancy. This is similar as with a lot of medications. If pregnancy is planned, discussion is required as steps can be taking to mitigate the risk of anticonvulsants in pregnancy.
