How to Use Terbinafine (Lamisil) 28 day treatment

We will write you a prescription for 28 days of treatment BUT you are only using it for 1 week each month. Do not fill the prescription until you follow the steps below!

1.    Get blood work. We monitor your red and white blood cells and your liver to make sure they are functioning normal before taking the medication.
2.    Wait until we have notified you of the results of the blood work. If the results are normal, then you can fill the prescription.
3.    Take one 250mg tablet of terbinafine each day for 7 days.
4.    After the 7th day, get the follow-up blood work either that day or the next. This verifies that your body is tolerating the medication.
5.    We will notify you when we receive the results. If the follow-up blood work is normal, then you may continue the treatment as instructed. Call us if we have not contacted you within 4 days.
6.    Wait about 3 more weeks then take 7 days of terbinafine, taking one tablet each day. Repeat this cycle for the next 2 consecutive months. (For example, take 1 week of treatment January, 1 week in February, 1 week in March, and 1 week in April.)

Terbinafine Treatment Timeline

** If the follow-up blood work is normal, we usually allow you to continue treatment for the next 3 months without further blood work.

• Fingernails will take about 6 months to grow out and toenails take about 12 months. We usually re-evaluate nails in about 6 months.
• Notify us immediately if you have questions, concerns, a rash or mouth sores appear, or if you have any other issues.
