Warts are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Warts are contagious by skin-to-skin contact or by sharing personal items like towels or razors.
Genital warts are spread by skin-to-skin or mucosal contact.
IN-OFFICE TREATMENT
CRYOTHERAPY
Liquid nitrogen -196°C is more effective then over the counter freezing methods. May sting with application. Blister often occurs post treatment. May wash with soap and water and cover with Vaseline and band-aid. Okay to pop blister.
LASER THERAPY: PULSE DYED LASER
A quick pulse of light that creates heat directed at wart. Treatment repeated every 4-8 weeks until healed. Feels like hard rubber band snapping against skin. May cause bruising.
IMMUNOTHERAPY: CANDIDA ANTIGEN
Injection of Candida antigen directly into wart. This tricks the body’s immune system into fighting virus. May need additional treatments.
CANTHARIDIN (CANTHARONE)
A toxin derived from the blister beetle, Cantharis vesicatoria, causes blister to
form on the wart or growth. This will eventually scab and fall off. May need additional treatments.
