What is Kybella® and am I a good candidate?

Kybella® is a recently FDA-approved safe and effective non-surgical treatment that corrects submental fullness caused by moderate to severe excess fat under the chin, commonly referred to as “double chin.” Submental fullness can impact a broad range of adults, including both women and men, and can be caused by aging, genetics and weight gain. Board-certified dermatologists Dr. Pinski and Dr. Sulewski provide a series of Kybella® injections that help to contour and redefine the chin, jawline and neck. In an in depth consultation, our doctors will evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns and goals to determine if you are a candidate for treatment with Kybella® at our offices.

What are the benefits of Kybella® and how does it work?

Each treatment session with Kybella® is typically 15-20 minutes done right here in our dermatology offices. Kybella® is injected with minimal to no discomfort into the fat layer in and around the chin. The injection consists of deoxycholic acid, similar to the body’s own natural fat dissolver that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Kybella® is great for patients who do not want to undergo surgical liposuction, but would like to enhance definition in the chin and neck area.

How many treatments will I need?

Dr. Pinski and Dr. Sulewski provide a series of 2-6 injections spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Our providers will customize a plan to address your specific concerns.

What type of results will I see?

When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with Kybella® is not expected. Once the fat is dissolved, it is naturally eliminated through the body.

Is there any downtime associated with this procedure?

Patients may experience bruising, swelling, redness, discomfort or numbness in the area. Swelling, bruising, redness and discomfort typically resolve within a few days and mineral makeup can be worn to camouflage some of these possible side effects. Numbness or induration (areas of hardness) can last 2-3 weeks after treatment.

What other treatments/procedures can Kybella® be combined with?

Kybella® works to eliminate unwanted fat under the chin area, however once fat is gone, patients may choose to treat with Ultherapy to further tighten and contour the chin area for the best results.
