The T.O.V.A® Test (Test of Variables of Attention) is a computerized test taken by children or adults suspected for having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or for monitoring their response to treatment with ADHD medications.
The T.O.V.A. Test assists doctors by:
- confirming the presence of ADHD
- monitoring a person's responses to treatment
- following a person's attention level over time
The T.O.V.A. Test provide a quantifiable measure of attention, not a subjective rating of behavior.
The test is like a computer game that measure a person's response to various forms of stimulit. The test takes approximately 21 minutes to perform.
Results of the test are compared to similar individuals of the same age without ADHD and/or to previous test results by the same individual to monitor changes over time.
The T.O.V.A. accurately predicts the effectiveness of ADHD medication by comparing T.O.V.A. tests (with and without medication). By administering the T.O.V.A. on various doses of medication, the doctor can adjust doses for best results.
The clinical version of the T.O.V.A. is used by licensed clinicians, such as psychologists, physicians (including psychiatrists, neurologists, pediatricians, and family practitioners), nurse clinicians, and licensed clinical social workers to assist them in accurately diagnosing and treating attention disorders.
