Cosmetic Dermatology - Health Tips

Thoughts on Cosmetic Dermatology by Dr. Seth Forman, MD
December 2019
Many dermatologists see an increase in patient appointments during December for cosmetic procedures, including Botox and dermal fillers (Restylane, Juvederm), to enhance their appearance for the holiday.

Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman advises patients to schedule their appointments early for these procedures because it can take days to fully recover and see the full benefits of treatment.

Botox is used to treat frown lines and wrinkles. The medication (botulinum toxin) is injected into the muscle of treatment area, making the skin look smoother. Botox can take 4-7 days to work and, according to Dr. Forman, “those who want Botox should plan to have the injections at least one week before an event.”

Dr. Seth Forman also pointed out that dermal fillers and laser skin procedures may benefit from even more recovery time. Dermal fillers can cause bruising around the injection side so that this procedure should be scheduled a week or more before a planned social event. Laser and light procedures can result in skin redness and may require at least 2 weeks for recovery.
