April began her medical career as an administrations clerk and emergency room technician at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. As a non-commissioned officer she served as an ER shift and lead the Family Practice Clinic, Dermatology Clinic, and the Maternity Suite at various Air Force bases. She also taught EMT classes at Odessa College in Texas.
