Tips for Skin Care at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center
Dry skin, also referred to as xerosis, is often itchy and irritating. Dry skin results from the loss of oils (sebum) in the skin that serve as a natural moisturizer. This may occur with excessive bathing (particularly with hot water), low humidity (in desert climates or cold winter weather), advancing age, or the use of drying soaps (antibacterial, deodorant soaps, Ivory).  In addition, several skin disorders, such as atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, lead to d...

Acne Skin Care for Girls at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center
What causes acne? Acne is a skin condition that occurs because of clogged pores that result from an overproduction of sebum. Sebum is an oily substance secreted from the sebaceous glands under the skin of the face, neck, shoulders, back, and chest. Acne is most common in teens because of the hormonal activity of puberty, which stimulates sebum production. How is acne different in girls? Adults and Acne at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center

Fortunately, acne is just as treatable in adults as it is in teens. Because the causes are so varied (in addition to hormones, family history, cosmetics, and certain medi...

The skin then regenerates: if the frozen area is left undisturbed, a superficial treatment will not scar. Here is what to expect from a treatment with liquid nitrogen, and how to care for the site. Discomfort at the site. If this was a light freeze on an area of skin other than the palm or sole, there will be some stinging for 10 or 15 minutes, and possibly some itching. If the ...
Seborrheic Dermatitis at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center
Appearance and Symptoms:    Redness, greasy scale in the “seborrheic areas” which include the eyebrows and the space between them, the grooves beside the nose, around the ears, in the scalp and sometimes on the central chest or central upper back.  Dandruff may be noticed in the scalp or eyebrows. While some of the areas mentioned are usually involved in anyone with seborrheic dermatitis, any facial area is likely to be involved, and just about any area of th...
Warts at Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center
Warts are caused by a virus called Human Papilloma virus (HPV), which is present in the skin.  Warts are contracted by direct contact with the virus; either by touching a wart or by coming in contact with the virus on a surface. Warts are contagious.  Since warts spread via direct contact, don’t pick at them!  Children are generally more susceptible to warts than adults. Wart treatment can be difficult and often requires a fair amount of pati...
