Dr. Kevin Kia, MD is a dermatologist providing medical care to patients in the Garland, Texas area.

His most recent interests revolve around improving scar outcomes in complex skin cancer surgeries and designing new antibiotic therapies. 

Dr. Kia has a strong interest in teaching and research and has accepted an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at UT-Southwestern. He spends his academic time overseeing residents on Tuesday mornings at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Hospital and Friday afternoons at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kia’s research has been published in numerous medical journals and presented nationally at multiple conferences. He is a regular speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology where he educates other dermatologists on the importance of cost-effective medicine.  Dr. Kia is dedicated to improving the lives of his patients and advancing the field of dermatology.

Education & Training

Kevin Kia, MD has a long history of academic excellence. He grew up in Michigan and graduated valedictorian from Utica High School in 1998. He was accepted into the prestigious combined undergraduate and medical degree program at the University of Michigan (consistently ranked one of the best medical schools in the country). There he completed a Bachelor of Science with Highest Distinction (the highest award offered by the university) in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences in 2001. Before entering medical school, Dr. Kia followed up on a life long passion for cooking by moving to Lyon, France to obtain his culinary degree in 2002. Upon returning to the states, Dr. Kia was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors society in 2004 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the medical school in 2006. He finished his internship in Michigan and then came to UT-Southwestern to complete his residency training in Dermatology.
