After completing his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University, Dr. Smith attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now called Drexel University) in Philadelphia. His postgraduate training was performed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego where he served as chief resident and then later as a member of the teaching faculty.
