About Robert Phillips, PAC
An introduction from Dr. Jacobs about Robert Phillips, PA-C:
Robert is a dermatology trained physician assistant, who completed a one-year dermatology internship, and also earned diplomate status by the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Robert can help you with all your dermatology needs.
Robert was born and raised in southern California, and was always headed towards helping people in their health care needs. As a foundation for future health care education, in high school, Robert excelled in advanced placement college level science and biology classes. After high school, Robert served our country for three years as a medic in the US Army. His experiences included working on the battlefield in the trauma hospital and on the front lines during Operation Just Cause in Panama 1989-90, where he learned to care for wounded soldiers in combat.
After his honorable discharge, Robert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, at Irvine. During this time at UCI, he spent one year in Taiwan as an exchange student and became conversationally skilled in Mandarin Chinese. Interestingly, Robert almost completed a second bachelor degree in Chinese Language, but was in a hurry to graduate and marry his physician wife, Lily Phillips, MD. Lily’s father required that Robert earn a bachelor degree before he could marry his beautiful daughter J.
After UCI came the wedding and honeymoon, and Robert went on to graduate from the Western University of Health Science Physician Assistant program.
In addition to being a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, he is also a member of the California Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, through which he earned the diplomate status through comprehensive coursework in clinical dermatology.
After PA school, Robert worked in the emergency room at Kaiser and in occupational medicine with Beaver Medical Group. It was during this time that Robert developed a desire to learn and specialize in dermatology, and thus, he sought for a program where he could train. Fortunately, Robert and I connected, and Robert spent over a year working side by side with me in an intensive dermatology internship. In this way, I was able to personally teach Robert many important lessons in clinical dermatology. That was in 2002, and Robert is still with me today! He continues to be a blessing for our patients and practice, always reading, growing, and learning dermatology via books, online resources, and dermatology conferences.
Now, at this point of his story, Robert is living happily ever after with his beloved bride Dr. Lily. Together, they are raising two bright little boys to someday carry on their legacy of making the world a better place J.
In the clinic, when you see Robert, you will sense his knowledge about dermatology and life in general. As his patient, you will find Robert to be a good listener, patient, caring, and extremely competent to care for your health care needs.
Now a word from Robert:
Unfortunately, there are many things that can go wrong with skin, but we are here to help no matter how small or how serious it may be. I see my role in dermatology as a privilege. To me, it is an honor to work with and help people with their skin problems. I know you come to our office looking for answers to your skin condition, and I do not take your trust lightly. With great respect and humility I will try to give you the honest and accurate care you need. Sit down and explain to me your skin problems, and I will do all that I can to assist you in restoring your skin and life to healing. You can be assured that our dermatology team will take the time necessary to address your concerns and pursue all resources available to restore your skin to optimal health.
