Dr. Cashman graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for five years before receiving her  Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina (USC). She then received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She then completed her dermatology residency training at the University of Minnesota where she served as the chief resident.
