Dr. Matheis received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Creighton University in 1988, and later pursued her interest in skin disease and skin surgery at the renowned North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.  She conducted research at the Shriners Burns Institute in Texas.  At the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, she attended medical school and conducted investigations into the genetics of skin cancer and the immunology of the skin.
