Rachna Bhandari, MD, PhD is a board-certified Dermatologist and diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. She is excited to have joined Dr. Vivian Bucay where she can offer personalized care for her patients. She moved with her husband Amitabh Bhandari, an anesthesiologist, along with their two sons from Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Bhandari’s Educational Background
Dr. Bhandari was born in India and came to the US with her parents and two sisters at 6 months of age. She grew up in Staten Island, NY and completed her Bachelors in Science in both Biochemistry and Chemistry at the Honors College at the City University of New York, College of Staten Island in 2003. She was then accepted into a combined physician scientist training program at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. This program combines the complete training of medicine, culminating in the MD degree, along with intensive research, which Dr. Bhandari focused her research in learning and memory under the direction of Dr. Todd Sacktor and obtained her PhD in Neural and Behavioral Sciences.

While in the graduate portion of her studies, her father developed bullous pemphigoid, an immunoblistering disorder which peaked her interest in Dermatology. She did her internship in Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital, joined the dermatology residency training program at the University of Buffalo and then completed the final two years of her training at the University of North Carolina.
