Dr. Ward-Hestdalen completed her undergraduate education in Biology at Duke University and received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. Her formal training began with two years of general surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She then completed three years of dermatology residency at the University of Texas Medical Center and a one year fellowship in clinical research at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
