There a 2 FDA-approved biologics for the treatment of moderate-severe eczema. These include dupilumab and tralokinumab which are monoclonal antibodies. Dupilumab is now available to treat severe eczema in patients 6 months old and above.  Tralokinumab targets IL-13 while Dupixent targets IL-4  which plays a major role in atopic dermatitis.  Tralokinumab is avaialbe for 18 yr olds an greater.  There is another class of monoclonal antibodies known as JAK inhibitors for the treatment of moderate to severe eczema. Rinvoq(Upadacitinib), Opzelura(Ruxolitinib), and Abrocitinib(Cibinqo). Treatment is individualized to patients based on age, the severity of the disease, and lack of response to traditional eczema treatment. JK inhibitors come in oral tablets but require close monitoring for adverse side effects typically with the use of blood work.  These biologics are life-changing for patients with moderate to severe eczema.

Eczema or atopic dermatitis can be difficult to treat.  Biologics have offered an advance in the treatment and management of atopic dermatitis.  It should be used under the supervision of a specialist in patients who have failed other treatment modalities.
